A geothermal is literally, Heat from the earth; Energy obtained from the hot areas under the surface of the earth.

In the context of the environment, "geothermal" refers to energy that is generated from the Earth's internal heat. Geothermal energy can be harnessed in a number of ways, including through the use of geothermal power plants and geothermal heat pumps.

Geothermal power plants generate electricity by using the Earth's internal heat to produce steam, which is then used to generate electricity. These power plants can be located near geothermal reservoirs, which are areas where there is a high concentration of heat below the Earth's surface.

Geothermal heat pumps, on the other hand, use the Earth's internal heat to heat and cool buildings. These systems work by transferring heat to and from the Earth using a series of underground pipes, which can be an efficient and environmentally friendly way to regulate the temperature inside a building.

Geothermal energy has a number of benefits, including its reliability (since the Earth's internal heat is a consistent source of energy), its low emissions (compared to fossil fuels), and its relatively low cost (once the initial infrastructure is in place).
