According to the original caption, these men are dismantling the plane. There are no wings attached which suggests they have either been removed or have suffered severe damage during combat. This photograph is bathed in a bright atmospheric light.

It has been strapped onto a trailer. Sitting on the trailer alongside the aeroplane are five soldiers. Directly in front of the aeroplane is a canvas-topped truck. Both are parked on a muddy road, with a field directly behind.
