Description: In the past many government departments passed documents to ministers in red boxes. However the Chancellor of the Exchequer's red 'Budget Box' is the most well known. This is William Ewart Gladstone's budget box. In addition to four terms as Prime Minister, Gladstone served as Chancellor four times between 1852 and 1882. Date: 19th Century Our Catalogue Reference:
