The coefficient of variation (CV, also variation coefficient or unitized risk ) in probability theory and statistics, is defined as a standardized measure of dispersion in a probability or frequency distribution, or the ratio of the standard deviation to the mean. The absolute value of the CV is sometimes known as the relative standard deviation (RSD), which is expressed as a percentage.
