An Acre is the unit of measure most typically used to describe land area in the United States. It is equivalent to about 4046 square meters (m²) or (in the USA)  to 43,560 square feet and is about 9/10 the size of an american football field.

 

The origin is the German "Acker" and should describe the amount of land a man and an ox could plow in one day.
