A dike or levee (also embankment, floodbank or stopbank) is a ridge, fill or wall that serves to regulate the water level of a nearby body of water for various purposes, primarily to prevent flooding. They may be naturally-occurring or artificially constructed.
When the water comes from a man-made pipe, a Dike is a low wall that can act as a barrier to prevent a spill from spreading.
