Glossary S
Deutsch: Oberfläche / Español: Superficie / Português: Superfície / Français: Surface / Italiano: Superficie
The concept of surface finds application in physics, engineering, computer graphics, and many other disciplines, primarily in representing the surfaces of physical objects. For example, in analyzing the aerodynamic properties of an airplane, the central consideration is the flow of air along its surface.
Sustainability in the environmental context refers to the practice of using natural resources in a way that meets current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It encompasses a broad range of activities and principles aimed at preserving the natural environment, ensuring the long-term health and well-being of the planet, and maintaining ecological balance.
Deutsch: Synthetisch / Español: Sintético / Português: Sintético / Français: Synthétique / Italiano: Sintetico /
The Synthesis describes the combination of two or more parts, whether by design or by natural processes. Furthermore, it may imply being prepared or made artificially, in contrast to naturally. The resulting product is called 'Synthetic'.
A systematic sample is a sampling design that utilizes regular spacing between the sample points, in one sense or another. The EMAP design selects samples via the triangular grid. Spatial arrangement of the selected resource units is not always strictly systematic, but the systematic grid is an important aspect of the design.
